Sounds like a cool opportunity -
HI,
I don’t know if you have any volunteers who might be available for a mission project, but I have an opportunity available.
I am associated with a group called gleaners for the Lord (www.gleanersforthelord.org)
WE have access to pick sweet corn every Sat morning 9-11:30 in McHenry IL. I currently pick sweet corn for the Kendall County Food Pantry. I brought back about 1000 lbs today and about 190 loaves of peperridge farm bread.
The sweet corn is free if people will show up to pick it and transport it back to a food pantry. I called Holy Angels and Hessed house but they say that they don’t have people available to come and get it. I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity for a youth group, boyscout or girl scout troop.
Please see the web site for more info and the exact location. We expect to be there every weekend through this summer until first frost. We head out into the fields promptly at 9 so please try to arrive before then.
Please prayerful consider doing this even if it is for just one Sat. The lack of volunteers means the food rots in the field rather than feeding a hungry family. If someone came with a pickup truck or van, I am sure that we could help fill it up for them.
(PS, I am a coordinator of this so can answer questions you might have.)
